Short version: Knob collects nothing.
No account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no tracking. Here's exactly what happens on your Mac, in plain English.
What we collect
Nothing. Knob has no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting. There is no account, no signup, and nothing to opt out of.
What stays on your Mac
- Your knob layout and settings live in
~/Library/Application Support/Knoband macOS user defaults — local files, never uploaded anywhere. - The mic gain knob's live VU meter reads your microphone level to draw the needle. Audio is processed in memory only — never recorded, stored, or transmitted.
- The dark mode knob asks macOS for Automation permission to flip the system appearance. That's a local system call.
The one network request
Knob checks knob.nikhco.in/version.json about once a week (or when you click Check for Updates…) to see if a newer version exists. The request carries no identifiers and nothing about you or your setup — it just fetches a small version file, like loading a web page.
If this ever changes
If a future version adds anything that sends data (for example, optional crash reporting to help us fix bugs), we'll update this page, note it in the release notes, and give you a switch to turn it off.
Children
Knob isn't designed for children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect data from them — though as above, it doesn't collect data from anyone.
Who runs Knob
Knob is made by NIKHCO, a general partnership registered in British Columbia, Canada. We trade as “NiKhCo” on the web. For privacy questions — or anything else — email [email protected].
